Filed Under (General) by admin on 03-07-2009
One question raised in relation to weight loss, how long is it going to take to achieve. There is certain information that you will need to collect in relation to your body’s composition which can help to determine just how long it is going to take you to lose weight.
The first thing you need to determine is just how much of your body weight is made up of lean body mass (bones and muscle) and how much of it is made up of body fat. In order to calculate your body fat percentage you need to take a number of measurements.
For men the measurements that they need to take are their body weight and their waist. Whereas for women they don’t only need to weigh themselves they need to measure the circumference of their waist, hips, wrist and forearm. Then they need to carry out some calculations and this will help them to work out what percentage of their body is made up of fat.
There are plenty of sites online that explain the calculations you need to carry out and also plenty that allow you to just enter the measurements you have taken will carry out the calculations for you. Once you know what percentage of fat your body is made up of you can then start to determine how long it is going to take for you to burn it off.
The first thing you need to do is work out how much weight you want to lose and deduct this from what you weigh currently. Therefore if you say weigh 220 lbs and want to weight 203lbs in the future the amount of weight you are looking to lose is 17lbs.
If you then calculate that on average you can expect to lose just 1lb each week whilst on your weight loss program then you can expect it to take around 17 weeks for you to reach your weight loss goal. But remember when calculating how long it is going to take you to lose weight you need to remember that you are trying to burn off the fat but keep the muscle.
So it is crucial that you devise a diet and exercise plan which will ensure that this is what happens. In fact those who work to the proviso of losing 1lb of weight each week will ensure that they reach their goal much more safely than if they were to diet or starve themselves.
The problem when it comes to weight loss, how long it takes to achieve the desired goals will also depend upon a person’s determination and will power to stick with their new dietary and exercise regime. Many people also tend to give up if they don’t see any physical changes in the first couple of weeks.
